I used to love looking through my Viewmaster at faraway places like the Grand Canyon, New York, etc. Do they still make them?

The retro look is cool, unfortunately, it's only the facade of a fifties TV with a modern flat screen inside.

This has to be from the fifties because they were called skateboards by the sixties.

I never knew they'd made a Pebbles doll. I didn't know anyone who had one, so this was a surprise!

Totally seventies! Do kids even use lunchpails anymore?

Heights have always been a challenge for me. I can go up just fine - no problem. It's coming down that freezes me dead in my tracks!

Moseying home along Mission Rd. by Lincoln Park and I happened upon this throw back. My friend CB had a Volkswagon van that she dearly loved. That van went everywhere and was a symbol of youth, carelessness abandonment and freedom. I miss that van!

This Little Girl has full reign of the area and no one dares move her!

Saturday, August 13, 2005

Notice how the bike tires have air, they're not flat, so obviously someone maintains it. It also looks like a maroon sleeping bag against the wall, but no sign of a human.

Another familiar visage is this abandoned and grafed trailer that sits on a lot of vacant buildings. Wasn't this trailer worth something and worth salvaging?

Thursday, August 11, 2005

I pass this building daily on my drive to work. The way the rising sun shone on the building caught my eye. As did, the old phone number without an area code. One thing about L.A., area codes keep changing as the demand for cell phones, faxes, pagers, land lines, increases.

A favorite find at any carnival or county fair is a carousel, replete with beatifully crafted animals, wonderful music and lots of color and lights.

Look closely, aren't these gemstones remarkable? Especially how the artist coordinated the type of stone and color. See, I am not artistic like this and creating something similar would be very hard work. Almost forgot to mention, the necklace is made entirely of paper and paper clips.

Building a miniature house takes time, patience and commitment and organization.

This miniature even has a game of checkers and bottles of Coke!

Friday, August 05, 2005

A staple of all carnivals and county fairs is the ferris wheel. I love viewing them at night when they're lit up and turning. I love watching the baskets sway. I love the sound of people's screams when the basket sways a little too much. But most of all, I love having my feet firmly planted on the ground!

The fifties and sixties vision of idyllic suburbs looked like this. What happened?

Wednesday, August 03, 2005

As a kid and teenager I loved riding the bumper cars. The more cars I bumped, the better the ride. Now they're too low tech for kids. They're not fast or rough enough.

Led Zepagain wows the crowd and brings business folk out of their seats!

I guess this is some primitive marble coaster? Maybe this is why you'd use a Marbo Shooter? I believe this is circa late 1950s.
